From that point on, I would have self-care nights, where I would light up a candle, play slow music and just get in my zone to write. Every thought, every feeling, I would write it down, even if it didn’t make sense at the moment. To then realize, I had poems that told my story and carried all of my emotions. As I kept doing my self care routine, lighting up my candles and playing my music, I realized I had began to attach certain feelings to certain scents of the candles I was using. It was to the point where certain scents would just remind me of certain feelings.

I was curious on why this was happening and learned that smell is the first sense that reaches our emotions and memory. I was fascinated by this discovery. Out of our five senses, touch, taste, hearing, sight and smell, I had found a way to become more in tuned with my emotions, through smell.

It was then when my little light bulb turned on and the idea of Camilight Candles came about. I wanted to connect my poems with unforgettable candle scents and a little bit of brain science. They were going to be more than good and refreshing smelling candles, they were going to represent vulnerability, light and perseverance.
